Wildcats' Pack Leads Men to Second Place Finish at Utah State

Jake Peterson finishes second overall as four Weber State runners place in the top seven
LOGAN, Utah — The Weber State men's cross country team opened its 2026 season with a strong performance Saturday, finishing second at the Utah State Alumni Challenge with a team score of 30 points.
The Wildcats showcased their depth throughout the 7K, placing four runners inside the top seven and five inside the top 10.
Jake Peterson led Weber State's effort, finishing second overall with a time of 20:54 and an average mile pace of 4:48. Tyler Spencer followed in fifth with a time of 21:06, while Paul Scown continued his strong start to the season by finishing sixth in 21:09.
Evan Harris crossed the finish line just two seconds later, taking seventh overall with a time of 21:11. Raivio Manzer rounded out Weber State's top five, finishing 10th in 21:19.
The Wildcats' depth continued behind their scoring five, with Jess Christiansen finishing 11th in 21:20 and Alex Maxfield taking 14th in 21:27. Caleb Woolford and TJ Warnick also finished inside the top 20, recording times of 21:57 and 21:59, respectively.
As a team, Weber State recorded a total time of 1:45:41, averaging 21:08 per runner.
The second-place finish gives the Wildcats a strong start to the 2026 season as they continue building toward the Big Sky Championships later this fall.
Weber State will return to competition Sept. 19 at the Indiana State John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.
