The 2007-08 Weber State volleyball prospecuts has information on the upcoming Weber State season, including the WSU roster, schedule, and quick facts.
The Wildcats are coming off a 16-13 overall record last season, including an 11-5 conference record, their best Big Sky record in 19 seasons. Weber State advanced to the Big Sky Tournament for the thrid straight season and defeated Northern Colorado in the first round for their first tournament win in five years. The 'Cats then narrowly lost to regular season champion Portland State in the semifinals.
Weber State returns eight players off of last year's squad, including six starters. Junior Micah Folsom was named to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team last season, the first Wildcat to earn that honor in five seasons. Senior Brittney Bisaillon earned Second Team All-Conference honors last season and junior Chelsea Bair was named to the Honorable Mention team.
Also returning for the 'Cats are senior Leah Burmeister, juniors Caitlyn Anderson, Amy Dunford, and Jenna Leggat, and sophomore Kim Lissinna.
Weber State has two red-shirt freshmen (Katie Mario and Jesslynn Patton) who will play for the 'Cats this year along with junior college transfer Jocilyn Randall. The 'Cats also signed freshman Carissa Noble to this year's squad.
Head coach Al Givens returns for his 16th season as coach of the Wildcats. He now is the longest tenured active coach in the Big Sky and ranks fourth all-time in conference wins. Former Wildcat standouts Melissa Leonard and Stephanie Birch return as assistant coaches for the 'Cats.
Weber State will open the 2008 season at a tournament in Arizona on August 29. The home opener and Big Sky opener will be September 18 against Eastern Washington and the season will conclude on November 22 against Montana State. The Big Sky Tournament will be held November 28-29 in Portland, Oregon.
