SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Weber State University softball team fell to 0-3 in its first weekend of play following losses to St. Mary's and Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday at Shea Stadium in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Crossover tournament.

St. Mary's (2-2) used a five-run second inning to produce all the offense they would need in a 5-2 win over the Wildcats to open the day for WSU. Rebecca Sabatini provided the big blow in the frame, with a two-run single down the left field line.

The Wildcats came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the second, as Heather Jackson and Ashley Huddleston each singled, setting up Kami Johnson for and RBI single to left field with one out. The Wildcats left two runners on in the inning, however, missing a chance to get right back into the game.

Weber State produced its final run of the game as Shaila Rivers doubled home Brandi Christopher with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Rivers finished the game with a pair of hits in four at-bats, while Huddleston went 2-for-3. Sarah Clark went the distance in the circle for Weber State, allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out four.

The Wildcats broke through offensively in their final game of the tournament, scoring seven times, but still came out on the short end, falling 9-7 to Cal State Bakersfield.

The Roadrunners (2-10) jumped out early, scoring single runs in the first two innings, and adding a three-spot in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

The Wildcats got back into the game one inning later, scoring four times in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 5-4. Symbree Minniear singled with the bases loaded to score a pair of runners, and Rivers singled home another pair with a two-out single to center.

Bakersfield pushed the lead back to four with a three-run fifth inning, Jazmine Lee doing the bulk of the damage with a two-out, two-run single.

Heather Jackson doubled home Christopher in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-5, and then got back within a run after scoring another pair in the sixth. Britinie Hardine and Ashtin Hall kicked off the two-run rally with back-to-back singles and Rivers walked to load the bases with no outs. Hardine and Hall scored later in the inning on a fielder's choice throwing error.

The Roadrunners finished off the scoring in the top of the seventh with a home run, and the Wildcats were unable to mount a rally in their half of the final inning.

Rivers finished the day 3-for-7 with three runs batted in to lead the Wildcats, while Huddleston also recorded three hits in seven at-bats on the day.
