Wildcats roll to 13-6 home win

OGDEN, Utah -- A beautiful spring day proved to be just want was needed to heat up the Wildcats' bats.
Riding the offensive power of a season-high 15 hits, the Weber State University softball team rolled past North Dakota on Friday afternoon, crushing the Fighting Sioux 13-6 at Wildcat Softball Field.
Speedy junior centerfield Erika James went 4-of-4, with three runs scored, three stolen bases and an RBI.
Junior Lyndsey Minnich went 4-of-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. One of those hits was a two-run triple during Weber State's explosive six-run second inning, which saw the Wildcats race out to a 9-2 lead.
Senior catcher Brandi Christopher also had a run-scoring triple in the third inning that gave the Wildcats their first double-digit runs scored of the season.
Junior Shaila Rivers added a two-run triple in the sixth inning and then scored the 'Cats' 13th and final run of the game on a balk.
In all, eight different Weber State players earned hits, with the Wildcats also taking advantage of five North Dakota errors in the first two innings.
Senior Britinie Hardine earned the win at the mound, earning six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of work.
The win ended a 13-game skid for the Wildcats, who improved to 4-18 and 1-2 at home. Weber State will face North Dakota (9-21) on Saturday in a doubleheader, with the first pitch scheduled for Noon at Wildcat Softball Field.
