'Cats Explode to Sweep Two From Southern Utah

Ogden, UT - The Weber State softball team had an offensive explosion in route to a doubleheader sweep of Southern Utah Wednesday at Wildcat Softball Field. The 'Cats picked up a 7-4 win in Game 1 and followed that up with a 12-4 win in the second game.
Southern Utah was in control of the first game, holding a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when the Wildcats exploded for five runs in the inning, including a grand slam homerun by Ashley Huddleston. It was Huddleston's grand slam of the season. That grand slam was followed by a home run by Brandi Christopher, who scored two runs in the game.
Symbree Minniear also scored two runs for WSU.
Sarah Clark picked up the win for the 'Cats in the first game, going four innings and not allowing any runs, for her third win of the season.
The Wildcats picked up right where they left off by starting the second game of the day off with a bang. Weber State scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. Erika James, Britinie Hardine, Minniear, Huddleston, Kelsie Vallies, and Brooke Silva all scored runs in the inning as the Wildcats took control of the game.
The 'Cats ended the game with three runs in the sixth inning to end the game in six innings with an eight run lead. Shaila Rivers hit a three-run homer WSU in the sixth inning.
Hardine picked up the win for the 'Cats, her fifth win of the season, allowing just one run.
The 12 runs is the second most runs scored by Weber State this season.
With the two wins the Wildcats improve to 12-30 on the season. They will close out the home portion of their schedule this weekend when they return to conference play to host Utah Valley for a four-game series with two games Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m. and two games Saturday, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
