OGDEN, Utah - The Weber State University softball team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule with a pair of tough setbacks to in-state rival Utah on Wednesday afternoon.

The Utes swept the doubleheader at Wildcat Softball Field, taking a 10-1 five-inning decision in the opening game and then an 8-1 win in the second.

Junior Kelsie Vallies and senior Erika James-Dixon were the only Wildcats to garner more than one hit across the two games, with each coming up with a pair of hits during the opening game.

Vallies, in her second season with Weber State, hit her first career home run during the third inning of the first game, knocking the ball well over the right field fence.

In the second game, the Utes burst out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, building the advantage to 8-0 in the top of the fifth.

Weber State avoided the run-rule in the bottom half of the inning, with senior Sarah Clark hitting an RBI single that scored freshman Kortney Law. Law also had a seventh inning single, but the Wildcats were unable to rally from the deficit.

Weber State finished with a winning record at Wildcat Softball Field (9-7 overall, 6-2 Pacific Coast) for the first time in the modern era of the program.

The Wildcats (21-28) will head to Portland, Ore., this weekend to wrap up the regular season against Portland State. The winner of the series will claim the PCSC's Mountain Division title and a berth in the PCSC championship series on May 11-12.
