FULLERTON, Calif. – Just minutes after suffering their first defeat of the young season, the Wildcats turned out a near-perfect performance against one of the best in the west.

Sophomore right-hander Bailey Seek turned in a six-hit, three strikeout effort in the circle as the Weber State University softball teams stormed past Cal State Fullerton 10-1 in a five-inning runaway at Anderson Field on Saturday.

“I really liked the way we played today,” Weber State coach Mary Kay Amicone said. “We bounced back after a tough game with San Diego State. In our second game, our offense was aggressive and made things happen.”

The Wildcats, who fell 2-1 San Diego State earlier in the day, pounded out 11 hits against the Titans (2-1), rolling out to a 10-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings. Impressively the Wildcats scored seven of their 10 runs in the game with two outs, repeatedly coming up with clutch hits with runners on base.

Sophomore designated player Molly Horne capped the Wildcats' scoring with a three RBI, bases-loaded double in the top of the third.

Senior first baseman Krystin Kubo, senior shortstop Aubrey Whitmer, and sophomore second baseman McKinley Brinkerhoff each recorded two hits, with Kubo hitting the Wildcats' fourth home run of the season to kick off the six-run third inning.

Weber State took a 1-0 lead in the first after Kubo hit an RBI single that scored Whitmer. The Wildcats tacked on three more in the second, with senior third baseman Alyson Kulp hitting an RBI single that scored Brinkerhoff before Whitmer hit a two RBI single to center field.

After Kubo's lead-off home run made it 5-0, freshman pinch hitter Sadie Blacker hit a two RBI single to right field that made it 7-0.

The Wildcats, who improved to 1-1 all-time against the Titans, are 3-1 overall for the first time in school history.

“Our pitchers threw really well today,” Amicone said. “I thought (junior catcher) KyRae Kogianes and Bailey worked together great in the second game. Aubrey Whitmer, Krystin Kubo, and Sadie Blacker all had clutch hits for us.”

In the earlier game against the Aztecs, the San Diego State capitalized on a two error sixth inning to score the go-ahead run in a 2-1 win.

Whitmer hit a solo home run in the third inning and sophomore right-hander Kirtlyn Bohling pitched the complete game, allowing just five hits and one earned run with two strikeouts.

Weber State will be back action on Sunday for the final day of the Titan Classic, and will face Canisius at 10 a.m. (9 a.m. Pacific) in a rematch of an opening day game the Wildcats won 6-2, followed immediately by a rematch with the Titans at Noon.
