Weber State takes down NAU 5-2

OGDEN - Weber State men's tennis picked up a 5-2 win over Northern Arizona today to put the Wildcats at 5-0 in Big Sky Conference play.
"NAU is one of the better teams in the conference so this was a very good win," Director of Tennis, Brad Ferreira said. "We came out a little more ready to play in the doubles, the doubles point has been eluding us all year, so getting the doubles point made life a lot easier for us today. If we keep playing with this intensity it's going to be a great rest of the season."
The Wildcats started the day off with strong doubles play. Stefan Cooper and Sanjay Goswami defeated Tim Handel and Adi Zilberstein 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. Jakub Gewert and Todd Fought picked up a 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot taking down Lucas Taylor and Eden Peleg. Despite a loss in the No. 3 doubles spot, Weber State still earned the doubles point.
In singles play, Weber State started with a victory from Fought in the No. 2 spot. Fought defeated Taylor 6-4, 6-1. Fought's victory was followed closely by another Wildcat win in the No. 6 spot. Goswami took down Thomas Fisher 6-2, 6-2.
Weber State was up 3-0, but with losses in the No. 1 and No. 5 spots the Lumberjacks were picking up momentum.
The match ended with Hou-En Chen defeating Ruben Montano 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot and Cooper taking down Felix Schumann 3-6, 3-6, 6-4 in the No. 3 spot. Weber State claimed the 5-2 win over Northern Arizona.
Weber State is now 6-6 overall on the season and remain undefeated in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats will next hit the road to play Northern Colorado and Air Force before returning home to face off against Sacramento State and Idaho State.
