Wildcats beat No. 11 EWU 28-20

The win moves the Wildcats to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in Big Sky play with two games remaining. The Eagles fall to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Â
Game time temperatures were in the low 30's with snow flurries in the second half as the Wildcats picked up their first win in Cheney since 2009.Â

The Eagles scored a touchdown on their first possession and led 7-0 after the first quarter. The Wildcats tied the game early in the second quarter when Stefan Cantwell found Treshawn Garrett for a 14-yard TD.Â
Eastern Washington came right back on its next possession with a touchdown to re-take the lead at 14-7. The Wildcats tied it again when Cantwell hit Drew Batchelor for a 1-yard TD with 7:05 left in the second quarter.Â
The Wildcats took the lead for the first time midway through the third quarter when Cantwell found Garrett for a 26-yard touchdown pass.Â
WSU's defense twice forced the Eagles to field goals in the fourth quarter, including a goal-line stop, and led 21-20 with seven minutes to play.Â
The Wildcats put together a 9-play, 65-yard drive over the next 4:35, capped by a 24-yard touchdown by David Jones.Â
WSU's defense again came up with a defensive hold. The 'Cats then missed a field goal but Preston Smith picked off an Eastern Washington pass to seal the win.Â

Cantwell finished 21-of-31 passing for 230 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 66 yards, giving him 296 yards of total offense.Â
Garrett had finished with six catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 38 yards. Senior Andrew Vollert had five catches for 87 and Drew Batchelor had six catches for 48 and one touchdown.
Jones led the rushing attack with 11 carries for 70 yards and one touchdown.Â
Defensively, Legrand Toia led the Wildcat with 11 tackles, with two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. The Wildcats played without senior cornerback Taron Johnson who missed the first game of his career with a hamstring injury.Â
The Wildcats are back on the road next week at Portland State at 3 p.m. MT. The final regular season game will be Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. against Idaho State.Â
