Weber State softball wrapped things up at the Loyola Marymount tournament Sunday. The Wildcats split a double header with LMU. First falling 2-1 and then later defeating the Lions 9-5.
"We played hard today," said head coach Mary Kay Amicone. "We answered back after the 2-1 tough loss. Takesha and Ashlyn really hit well this entire weekend. We are still working on some little things but I loved our fight. Kirtly and Kate pitched very well today and our defense played much more solid."
In the first game, neither team scored in the first four innings. In the  top of the fifth, Weber State's Ashlyn Visser started things off with a double to center field. Sadie Blacker followed that up with a double to right center scoring Visser.
In the bottom of the fifth LMU was also able to get one across and things were tied up at 1-1. Neither team scored in the sixth inning and it looked like extra innings were in sight as WSU got two outs early in the bottom of the seven. However, the Lions came up with back to back  doubles that gave them a 2-1 win over Weber State.
In the second game, Weber State scored in five out of seven innings. Takesha Saltern started things off in the first inning with a single. Landi Hawker followed with another single advancing Saltern. McKinley Brinkerhoff laid down a sacrifice bunt that advanced two runniners to scoring position. Visser was able to get on base by an error and both Hawker and Saltern were able to score putting WSU up 2-0.
LMU jacked a home run in the bottom of the first that scored three runs. In the top of two, Saltern hit a triple to left center that scored one run and things were all tied up 3-3.
In the top of three, Visser hit a solo shot home run over left center that put WSU up 4-3. The fourth inning started out solid with four Wildcats walking that ended up putting two across the plate. Visser then popped up to right field but still earned an RBI. Just like that WSU was up 7-3.
Meanwhile on the defensive side, WSU held LMU scoreless for five innings. Visser's bats were fire as she jacked another bomb in the top of the sixth scoring two more runs for WSU. The Lions were able to score two in the bottom of six but it wasn't enough and Weber State ended with a final 9-5 score.
The Wildcats are now 6-9 overall on the season. Weber State has the Red Desert Classic up next in St. George, Utah where the Wildcats will take on Nevada, Utah Valley, Boise State and Seattle.
