Wildcats split games on day two of Lyman Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Weber State softball split day two of the Lyman Classic, first falling 5-2 to UC Davis, and then bouncing back with a 12-4 victory over CSU Bakersfield in five innings.
Game One: UC Davis 5, Weber State 2
UC Davis scored the first run of the day in the top of the first inning of the opening game.
Apollonia Maldonado launched her first home run of the season, and the second of her college career, to put Weber State on the scoreboard in the fourth inning.
The Aggies built on their advantage in the fifth and sixth innings, extending their lead to 5-1 against the Wildcats.
In the seventh inning, Weber State added one more run when Sammy Gallegos hit an RBI double. However, they failed to generate any more offense, leaving two runners stranded as UC Davis secured the 5-2 victory.
Raina Navarro (0-3) took the loss as she pitched 5.2 innings and faced 27 batters.Â
The Wildcats ended the game with 10 hits to the Aggies seven. Tori Rey, Jordan McMahon and Gallegos all recorded two hits.Â
Game Two: Weber State 12, CSU Bakersfield 4 (5 Inn.)
Tori Rey scored the first run of the second game for Weber State after reaching base on an Apollonia Maldonado fielder's choice.
Weber State added two more runs in the second inning. Sammy Gallegos's groundout allowed Abby Grundy to score, and Ray followed with an RBI single.
The Wildcats extended their lead to 8-0 in the top of the fourth inning, highlighted by Sienna Solis's two-run home run to right field and the first of her college career.
The Roadrunners then scored four runs in the fourth inning, cutting the Wildcats lead to four.
Weber State maintained its momentum, scoring four more runs in the fifth inning.
The Wildcats secured a 12-4 victory, ending the game in the fifth inning after the Roadrunners went three up and three down quickly in the bottom of the frame.
Cali McCraw (1-2) secured the win, her first this season, as she pitched 3.2 innings and recorded two strikeouts.Â
