Wildcats drop two on final day of Lyman Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Wildcat softball finished the Lyman Classic with a 1-4 record after dropping two games on the final day of the tournament.
Game One: CSU Bakersfield 7, Weber State 4
Jordan McMahon scored an unearned run to put the Wildcats on the board first.
CSU Bakersfield then totaled three in the second inning off an RBI double and walk.Â
Sammy Gallegos capitalized on a fielding error to score unearned, narrowing the deficit to one run and making the score 3-2 in favor of the Roadrunners.
Weber State also scored in the fifth inning with an RBI single to center field by Tori Rey, to match CSU Bakersfield's run in the same inning.
The Roadrunners added two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Despite the Wildcats recording one hit in the bottom of the seventh, it wasn't sufficient, and the Roadrunners held on for the 7-4 victory.
The Wildcats utilized four pitchers, though the loss was ultimately charged to Joslynn Veltien (0-1), who pitched 1.0 inning and faced eight batters.
Game Two: Utah Tech 13, Weber State 5 (5 Inn.)
Utah Tech scored the first runs of the game with an RBI single followed by a home run.
The Trailblazers then hit a second home run, extending their advantage to 3-0.
The 'Cats seized a 5-3 lead in the third inning, driven by RBI singles from Jordan McMahon and Taegan Smith, followed by a three-RBI double from Apollonia Maldonado.
Despite the Wildcats five-run inning, the Trailblazers tacked on seven more runs to ultimately win the game 13-5 in five innings.Â
Kendall Freidinger took the loss, pitching three innings. She faced 17 batters and recorded two strikeouts.
