Weber State softball drops two games on the second day at UNLV. First, WSU fell 9-0 to Hawaii and then later fell 10-4 to tournament host, UNLV.
In the first game against Hawaii, the Rainbow Warriors hit a bomb in the first inning to give them an early 3-0 jump on the Wildcats.
To end the first inning Faith Hoe executed a grounder for a 4-3 putout. In the bottom of the second inning Hoe had all three defensive outs for Weber State. To start off the top of the third, Hoe had yet another defensive play snagging a ball coming in hot to second base where she backhanded it and sent it to first for five straight defensive outs for WSU.
The Wildcat offensive struggled to find momentum and despite having runners in scoring position weren't able to get on the board as Hawaii continued to drive on WSU. In the bottom of the fourth, Hawaii hit another home run to give them a 9-0 lead.
WSU couldn't get a run across in the top of the fifth and Hawaii claimed the victory.
In the second game against UNLV, Weber State got on the board first thanks to an RBI by Brooke Moeai. However, the Rebels answered with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a three run lead.
Weber State started chipping away and thanks to four hits in the top of the third the Wildcats put two runs across the plate to trail by one run.
Moeai had another big RBI in the top of the fourth inning with a single through the middle to score Landi Hawker to tie the game up at 4-4. In the bottom of the fourth, UNLV found some footing at the plate and scored five runs. Â
Faith Hoe continued her strong defensive performance by rolling a double play in the bottom of the sixth to hold off UNLV's victory and forcing the game to go into a full seven innings.
In the top of the seventh, Weber State was able to get one runner on base but couldn't drive her across the plate and UNLV took the victory with a final score of 10-4.
Weber State is now 3-6 overall on the season and will take on Seattle in the final game of the Boyd Gaming Rebel Classic tomorrow morning.
