Weber State picks up two big wins over Lehigh and Ohio State

Weber State softball went 2-0 on the day by defeating Lehigh 11-2 in five innings and then later defeating Ohio State 4-0.
Against Lehigh, the first two innings went scoreless for both teams. WSU started some strong offensive momentum in the top of the third inning. Lauren Hoe started things off with a single to right field. The Wildcats then proceeded to load up the bases.
Landi Hawker had a shot to the shortstop and was able to get on base and WSU got one across the plate on the play. Brooke Moeai singled to through the right side for an RBI. With bases loaded again, Ashlyn Visser doubled to left center scoring two runs.
Next, Faith Hoe doubled to left field for another two Wildcat runs. As the third inning concluded, Weber State had six runs off of five hits, two errors and one left on base.
Lehigh was able to answer in the bottom of the fourth inning but were only able to get two across.
WSU had a four run lead going into the fifth inning and needed just four runs at a chance to end the game in early innings.
In the top if the fifth inning, Moeai singled up the middle to start things off. Fast forward, Weber State had bases loaded and Lauren Hoe was hit by a pitch to advance each runner one base also giving WSU one run.
Thanks to a two RBI single by Chloe Camarero, Weber State ended the top of the fifth inning with five runs from two hits and left one on base.
WSU's defense was on point in the bottom of the fifth inning allowing zero runs, zero hits and had no errors to take the 11-2 victory over Lehigh.
In the second game of the day against Ohio State, Weber State's defense was strong. The first three innings for both teams were scoreless.
The fourth inning, Weber State's offense kicked into gear. Landi Hawker started things off by drawing a walk off of a full 3-2 count. Chloe Camarero reached on a fielder's choice. With two runners in scoring position Visser singled to right center for the first Wildcat run of the day.
Faith Hoe stepped up and knocked a single through the left side for another WSU RBI. Courtney Pestka kept the trend up with a single and an RBI.
By the end of the top of the fourth, WSU had three runs off of four hits and unfortunately left the bases loaded. However, WSU's defense in the bottom of the fourth remained strong. WSU didn't allow any runs or hits and had no errors.
It wasn't until the top of the seventh inning that Weber State was able to score another run. WSU had four hits right off the get go scoring another run. In the bottom of the seventh, despite coming up with two hits, Ohio State couldn't get any runners across the plate and the Wildcats came away with a big 4-0 victory over the Buckeyes.
Weber State is now 6-14 overall on the season and will remain in Phoenix, Ariz. to take on Lehigh again tomorrow and tournament host Grand Canyon.
