Weber State home season starts tomorrow vs. Utah State

PLAY BALL!
• Weber State continues the 2019 season with the home opener Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Wildcat Softball Complex.
ON DECK
• Weber State will start Big Sky play on March 22-23 at Northern Colorado.
IN THE HOLE
• WSU's next home game will be March 27 against the University of Utah. Followed by WSU's first home stand against Sac State March 29-30.
WHAT'S GOOD?
• Weber State is 7-16 overall on the season.
• Weber State is sitting at No. 4 in the Big Sky Standings.
• The Wildcats are coming off a 2018 season where they claimed the Big Sky Regular Season title as Co-Champions with Sacramento State.
• 2018 was Weber State's third consecutive Big Sky Regular Season title.
• The Wildcats were picked to finish second in the Big Sky preseason polls.
• Weber State returns nine letterwinners from last season and six starters while adding six newcomers.
ROOT ROOT FOR THE HOME TEAM
• Weber State is 9-9 overall on the home opening day.
• WSU is 9-1 under Mary Kay Amicone on the home opener.
• This is the first time WSU has NOT had a double header on opening day.
• This is the second time in school history Utah State has been the opponent on the home opener.
A CONSISTENT SPOT
Weber State has had four players hold the starting spot in the same position all season. Junior right field Takesha Saltern, junior center fielder Landi Hawker, third baseman Chloe Camarero and second baseman, Faith Hoe have all started all 23 games in their respective positions.
SALTERN NAMED BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Junior Takesha Saltern has maintained a level of consistency at that plate. She is currently leading the Wildcats with a .423 batting average. She now has 30 hits from 71 at bats. She's rocked two doubles and two triples for a slugging percentage of .507.
Saltern, who started all five games in right field, batted .533 with eight hits, four runs scored, four walks and three RBI in all five games for the Wildcats.
On defense, she recorded four putouts and two assists.
The Smithfield, Utah native recorded three hits including one triple with two runs and two RBI in a six-inning run rule of Lehigh on Saturday. Saltern also tallied a multiple-hit performance against Ohio State on Friday with two hits and one run in a 4-0 shutout of the Buckeyes. She hit safely in all five outings to run her hitting streak to nine games.
SU'ESU'E NAMED BIG SKY PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Su'esu'e recorded a 0.64 ERA and 1-1 record in an efficient two outings last weekend to garner her first Big Sky Pitcher of the Week honor. The right-handed pitcher from Blanding, Utah allowed just one earned run, one extra-base hit and no walks in 11.0 innings while recording five strikeouts.
