Weber State falls to CSF and Santa Clara

Weber State softball had strong defensive efforts that weren't quite enough to pull out a victory and WSU fell 1-0 to CS Fullerton and 4-1 to Santa Clara on the first day at the Silicon Valley Classic II.
Against CS Fullerton, both teams went three up and three down in the first three innings.
In the bottom of the fourth the Wildcats found a little momentum starting off with a double by Chloe Camarero. The Wildcats couldn't get Camarero across the plate and ended up leaving two runners on base.
The three up and three down, trend continued in the fifth inning but WSU managed to get runners on base in the sixth breaking the trend. The Wildcats still couldn't manage a run heading into the seventh inning.
Weber State's defense was solid the entire game holding the Titans scoreless the entire game until the top of the seventh. CS Fullerton was able to move runners around into scoring position and a single up the middle gave the Titans the lone run of the game.
The Wildcats tried to answer in the bottom of the seventh and even got a runner into scoring position but WSU couldn't pull it out and fell 1-0 to the Titans.
In the second game of the day, tournament host Santa Clara put a single run up in the first inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Santa Clara had back-to-back hits to lead off. They continued to be aggressive at the plate and base running in that inning and got three runs across off of four hits and one error.
WSU trailed 4-0 going into the third inning. It wasn't until the sixth inning that Weber State found some offensive momentum. Takesha Saltern started things off with a single to third base. Brooke Moeai stepped up to the plate and singled to left center scoring Saltern.
The Wildcat defensive efforts remained strong in the bottom of the sixth. WSU couldn't get any more runs on the board in the top of the seventh and ended up falling 4-1 to Santa Clara.
Weber State is now 4-11 overall on the season and will take on UC Davis and CSUN on the second day of the Silicon Valley Classic II tomorrow.
