Weber State falls 19-13 at Nevada

RENO - Weber State dropped another close game to a Mountain West opponent as the Wildcats fell 19-13 at Nevada Saturday afternoon at Mackay Stadium.Â
Â
Weber State led 10-9 at halftime but Nevada scored 10 points in the second half and held the Wildcats to just three points.Â

With the game tied 3-3, Kaden Jenks found Rashid Shaheed for an 11-yard touchdown to give the Wildcats a 10-3 lead. Nevada started the second half with a 33-yard touchdown run to take a 16-10 lead. Trey Tuttle added a 47-yard field goal for the only scoring by the Wildcats in the second half.Â

Nevada totaled 453 yards, compared to just 137 for Weber State. The Wolf Pack added 25 first downs and threw for 300 yards and rushed for 153. The Wildcats had 74 yards rushing and 63 yards passing. WSU was also just 1 of 12 on third down conversions.Â

Weber State's defense had four sacks, 12 tackles for loss and two interceptions and the Wildcats also blocked a Nevada kick.Â

"We had short field situations and couldn't take advantage and Nevada played very well and shut us down defensively," said head coach Jay Hill. "We won the turnover margin but couldn't take advantage of those opportunities and we got a little worn out in the second half."

Senior Jonah Williams had three sacks on the day, while Noah Vaea, Brody Burke and Conner Mortensen each had 10 tackles. Preston Smith and Maxwell Anderson had interceptions for the Wildcats.

On offense, Kaden Jenks started for Jake Constantine who missed the game with a knee injury. Jenks was 6 of 21 passing for 57 yards. Rashid Shaheed had three catches for 30 yards and one touchdown. Kevin Smith rushed for 26 yards and Josh Davis added 25 yards on the ground.   Â

Weber State has a bye week next week before returning to Stewart Stadium on September 28 to host nationally-ranked Northern Iowa. That game the Wildcats will celebrate 100 years of football at Weber State. Â
