Weber State closes out the weekend with 6-5 loss to UVU

Weber State softball ended the weekend with a 6-5 loss to Utah Valley.Â
How it happened: Takesha Saltern started the game off with a single to third base. Saltern stole second putting WSU in scoring position. Ashlyn Visser then singled to right center for an RBI. WSU was on the board 1-0.Â
In the second inning, Lauren Hoe homered to left field for another Wildcat run on the board. In the top of the third WSU put two runners on base and with two outs, Faith Hoe came through with a single through the right side for an RBI.Â
By the end of three complete innings, WSU had a 3-0 lead over Utah Valley. In the top of the fifth, Landi Hawker started things off with a single up the middle. Chloe Camarero followed that with a double to right center for an RBI. Mariah Ramirez singled through the left side for an RBIÂ and WSU had a 5-0 lead over UVU.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Utah Valley scored two runners earlier and then had a grand slam to give UVU the 6-5 lead.Â
In the top of the seventh, the Wildcats couldn't get any offense to score and fell 6-5 to the Wolverines.Â
At the plate: Weber State scored five runs from 10 hits and had five RBIs. WSU drew one walk and had six strikeouts. WSU left six runners on base. Takesha Saltern went 2-3 at the plate and scored one run. Lauren Hoe went 2-3 at the plate with one RBI from her homerun.Â
In the field: WSU had 18 putouts and six assists. McKell McCuistion and Courtney Pestka each had five putouts.Â
In the circle: Mariah Ramirez pitched all six innings for WSU and gave up six hits, one run, one error and three walks in the 31 batters faced. She also recorded three strikeouts. Â
Notes to know:Â Weber State has a 3-7 overall record now on the season and currently on a six game losing streak.Â
Up Next: Weber State will head to the Lone Star State to the University of Texas to take on North Dakota State, Duke, Lipscomb and Texas Feb. 21-22.
