Wildcats split second day at Texas Invitational

Weber State softball split Saturday morning's double header at the Texas Invitational first, falling to North Dakota State 4-2 and then later defeating Lipscomb 6-1.Â
What head coach Mary Kay Amicone said: "I liked our fight in the first game after we fell behind. We were in a great position in the seventh inning and Ashlyn Visser laced that pitch but it was right at the defense. I loved our bounce back in game two. Mariah Ramirez threw a complete game and competed really well. We put together a very nice complete game. Three hitters had multiple hit days. Small improvements make us happy."
GAME ONE -Â
How it happened: In the top of the second inning the Bison put one run up on the board and followed that up with two in the third. NDSU had a 3-0 lead after three complete The Wildcats held North Dakota State scoreless for the next three innings.Â
In the bottom of the fifth, Katelyn Whiting singled through the left side to start things off for the Wildcats. Faith Hoe stepped into the box with two outs and a runner on second. She powered out a double down the left field line for an RBI to put WSU on the board.Â

In the bottom of the sixth, McKell McCuistion fired things off with a double to right center. Chloe Camarero doubled down the left field line for an RBI. WSU ended the sixth inning with one run from two hits and one left on base.Â
Heading into the final inning of play, Weber State trailed just 3-2 to North Dakota State. In the top of the seventh, NDSU put one run across to take a 4-2 lead.Â
Weber State wasn't going to go out without a fight. Landi Hawker singled to second base to get on and Faith Hoe followed that with a walk. With runners on base, Ashlyn Visser roped the ball unfortunately right to the shortstop who executed the double play to end the game.Â
At the plate: Weber State scored two runs from seven hits with two RBIs. Weber State drew four walks and had five strikeouts and left eight runners on base. Faith Hoe and Choloe Camareo both went 1-2 and each had an RBI.Â
In the field: The Wildcats had 21 putouts and 15 assists. Ashlyn Visser had 11 putouts while, Katelyn Whiting, McKell McCuistion and Faith Hoe each had three assists.Â
In the circle:Â Kate Donaldson started in the circle for WSU. She pitched four innings and faced 19 batters. She gave up three hits, three runs and two errors. She had one walk and one strikeout.Â
Amanda Sink came in the game to close out. She pitched three innings and faced 13 batters. She gave up just one hit, one run and one error. Sink recorded three walks and three strikeouts.Â
GAME TWO -
How it happened: In the top of the first, Camarero started things off with a single to left field. Visser followed that up with a double to left center for the RBI and a 1-0 Wildcat lead.Â
The second inning went scoreless for both teams. In the top of the third, Weber State was able to get another run across the plate thanks to a single up the middle by Camarero.Â
After three complete innings, Weber State had a 2-0 lead over Lipscomb. Weber State's power inning happened in the top of the fifth.Â
Weber State put two runners on base and Landi Hawker singled through the left side for an RBI. Ashlyn Visser was also able to get an RBI thanks to a single through the left side. With bases loaded and no outs Mariah Ramirez singled to centerfield for another RBI. McCuistion also came up with a single for an RBI. WSU ended up leaving bases loaded as the inning concluded but the Wildcats did put up four runs thanks to six hits and one error.Â
Lipscomb was able to get one run across the plate in the bottom of the sixth. After all seven innings concluded, WSU walked away with a 6-1 victory.Â
At the plate: Weber State scored six runs from 11 hits and had six RBIs. WSU had 32 total at bats. The Wildcats drew just one walk and had eight strikeouts. Chloe Camarero and Ashlyn Visser each went 2-4 at the plate with Visser having two RBIs and Camarero having one.Â
In the field: WSU had 21 putouts and 11 assists. Ashlyn Visser had seven putouts and Chloe Camarero had five assists.Â
In the circle: Â Mariah Ramirez pitched all seven innings for WSU. She faced 25 batters and gave up just five hits, one run and one error. Ramirez had just one walk and rocked four strikeouts.Â
Notes to know:Â Weber State has a 5-9 overall record now on the season.
