Weber State Downs Cal-Baptist to Finish Desert Classic

Weber State wrapped up the UNLV Desert Classic tournament on Sunday at Eller Media Stadium with a 5-1 win over Cal-Baptist for their second win of the weekend, both of which came against the Lancers.
"Despite some of the results not going our way, we played some good softball this weekend," said Mary Kay Amicone. "Kate Donaldson had an outstanding weekend for us pitching, and we are making great progress and starting to settle in to what we can do as a team."
Cal-Baptist started quickly, taking a 1-0 lead on an Abby Robertson home run to centerfield. The Wildcats responded immediately, however, scoring three times in the bottom of the frame for all the runs they would need on the day.
Noelle Foster was hit by a pitch with one out, and scored on a Chloe Camarero double to center field to tie the game at 1-1. Faith Hoe singled, Saree-Ann Kekahuna drew a walk, and McKell McCuistion singled to drive home Camarero. Katelyn Whiting then picked up an RBI on a bases loaded walk to make the score 3-1.
The Wildcats got out of a bases loaded situation in the top of the third inning, and added a run in the bottom half as Faith Hoe turned a leadoff single into a run scored, coming home on a two-out single by Whiting.
McCuistion tacked on another insurance run in the sixth inning, as she launched a solo home run to right field, her first on the season.
Mariah Ramirez tossed four innings of one run ball, striking out four Lancers to earn her third win of the season. Faith Hoe went 2-for-3 on the day, scoring a pair of runs, while McCuistion also went 2-for-3 and added 2 RBI.
Lauren Hoe led the Wildcats for the weekend offensively, hitting .400 with three home runs and seven RBI. Donaldson posted a team-best 1.15 ERA across three appearances, striking out 13 batters over 15.2 innings of work.
