Wildcats Split Pair at Utah Valley

OREM, Utah – The Weber State softball team moved to 7-9 on the season Wednesday as they split a doubleheader against Utah Valley at Wolverine Softball Field.
Kate Donaldson turned in a dominating performance in the circle for the Wildcats in the opener, tossing a complete game shutout in a 3-0 victory. The junior righthander allowed only three hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings of work. Donaldson improved to 3-2 on the season with the win.
Mia Rushton singled to lead off the game for the Wildcats and later scored the winning run as Ashlyn Visser drove her home on a single to right field.
Katelyn Whiting added a pair of insurance runs for Weber State in the fifth with a single up the middle to drive home Rushton and Makayla Donahoo.
In the second game, Utah Valley struck early, scoring four times in the frame. Kyla Hardy highlighted the inning with a two-RBI double down the left field line.
The Wolverines added another run in the third inning on a Rien Milliken home run to complete the scoring in a 5-0 win.
Weber State threatened in the seventh inning, loading the bases as Emily Ruhl, Lauren Hoe and Rushton each singled, but Devyn Cretz got out of the jam to end the game. Cretz went the distance for the Wolverines, scattering eight hits and striking out eight in the shutout win.
Rushton went 2-for-4 in each game, while Visser went 2-for-3 in the opener and Ruhl went 2-for-2 in the second game.
