OGDEN, Utah – Weber State remained unbeaten in Big Sky Conference play on Saturday as they completed a three-game series sweep of Northern Colorado with a 10-1 in in five innings at Wildcat Softball Field. With the win, the 'Cats improved to 19-12 overall and moved to 9-0 atop the league standings.
Mia Rushton led off the bottom of the first with a single, extending her consecutive games hitting streak to 20 straight games, and later scored on an Ashlyn Visser sacrifice fly.
In the top of the second inning, the Bears equalized the game, scoring a run without a hit. Erin Brockmann was hit by a pitch from Amanda Sink and after some defensive miscues, came around to score the unearned run on a fielder's choice.
Mariah Ramirez quickly put the Wildcats back in the lead in their half of the second, launching a solo home run to lead off the frame. Makayla Donahoo and Rushton added singles in the inning as WSU put four runs on the board to lead 5-1.
In the third, Visser led off with a double to center field and scored on a Faith Hoe single as the Wildcats scored a single run to extend the lead to 6-1.
Weber State added another four runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule territory. Katelyn Whiting singled home Donahoo for the team's first run of the frame, Chloe Camarero followed with a two-RBI triple to right center, and Faith Hoe finished the scoring with an RBI triple to left.
Kate Donaldson allowed a one-out single in the top of the fifth, and hit Brockmann again to give the Bears runners on first and second with two outs. The righthander ended the threat without any damage, however, as she induced a Paola Villegas grounder to Faith Hoe at second base.
