Wildcats Drop Tune-Up Game to Utah

The Utes (17-18) jumped on the Wildcats (19-13) early scoring three runs in the opening frame, but Weber State got one back in the bottom of the inning as Ashlyn Visser doubled to right center field, driving home Mia Rushton. Rushton led off the inning for the 'Cats and reached on an infield single to push her consecutive games hitting streak to 21-straight.
The Wildcats closed the gap to 3-2 in the second inning as Lauren Hoe continued her strong hitting with a double to left field to score her sister, Faith.
Weber State ran into some trouble in the fourth inning as the Utes scored six times on three hits, two walks and a Wildcat error.
The Wildcats scored a single run over the next two innings to cut the deficit to 9-4. In the fourth, Emily Ruhl doubled with two outs and Lauren Hoe followed with her second RBI double of the game, sending pinch runner Aliya Harmon to the plate. In the fifth, Makayla Donahoo scored on a Chloe Camarero sacrifice fly.
The Utes scored another three runs in the sixth, highlighted by an Ellessa Bonstrom home run to right field. The Wildcats were unable to score in their half of the sixth and the game ended under the run-rule.
Sydney Sandez pitched the final three innings for the Utes to earn the win, improving to 8-4 on the year, while Mariah Ramirez (9-5) suffered the loss for Weber State.
Rushton and Lauren Hoe each finished the game 2-for-3 to lead Weber State offensively.
The Wildcats will head back into Big Sky play on the weekend, when they take a nine-game conference winning streak into Cedar City, Utah to take on Southern Utah, who is second in the conference at 7-2.
