Wildcats head SUU for first-place showdown

• It's an early first-place showdown in the Big Sky as two instate rivals meet Monday night. Weber State and Southern Utah will tipoff at 7 p.m. from the America First Events Center Monday in Cedar City with first place in the conference on the line. The game will be televised on ESPN+ with Weber State radio broadcast on 103.1 FM "The Wave". Live stats at WeberStateSports.com.

• The Wildcats are 13-5 overall and are on top of the Big Sky standings at 6-1. Weber State has won three straight games including two wins over Idaho State last week. The Wildcats beat the Bengals 95-63 on Thursday night in Ogden after shooting 55 percent from the field.

• Southern Utah is 11-5 overall and just behind the Wildcats at 5-1 in Big Sky play. SUU is coming off a 86-74 win over Idaho State on Saturday. The Thunderbirds were picked first in the Big Sky preseason polls after winning the regular season title last year. SUU is 16th in the nation in rebounding at 40.8 per game. They also lead the Big Sky in rebounding margin, scoring offense and field goal defense.

• Weber State is first in the conference in field goal percentage at 47.1 percent and is 13-0 this season when leading in field goal percentage and 0-5 when trailing.

• Senior JJ Overton led the Wildcats with 21 points in Thursday's win, which tied his season-high. Overton has scored in double figures in the last six and nine of the last 10 games. He is averaging 12.6 points per game and shooting 53 percent from the field. He is also third in the Big Sky in steals at 1.6 per game.

• Senior Koby McEwen is fifth in the Big Sky in scoring at 17.2 points per game. He has scored in double figures in all but one game this season. He is also seventh in the league in 3-pointers per game and seventh in field goal percentage. Dillon Jones leads the Big Sky and is 13th in the nation in rebounding at 10.1 per game. He also has nine double-doubles this season.

• Weber State holds a 35-11 series lead over Southern Utah and the Wildcats have won three of the last four. Two two teams split the series last year. WSU is 11-7 all-time in Cedar City. This will be the final Big Sky game in Cedar City between the two teams before SUU leaves the conference next year.

• Monday's game is the first of three road games this week. The Wildcats will also play at Northern Colorado Thursday and Sacramento State Saturday before coming home for three games next week.
