Wildcats Down Dixie State, Win Sixth Straight

With two outs in the top of the first, it was Chloe Camarero who acted as the catalyst for the Cats with a single. She followed that act up by stealing second base and getting into scoring position for Faith Hoe. Faith promptly brought her longtime teammate in to score by doubling into the outfield and giving the Wildcats an early 1-0 advantage.
Dixie State didn't waste anytime flipping the script and put up two runs in their half of the frame.
Leading off the top of the second, Mariah Ramirez's fly ball on an 0-1 pitch took flight to the opposite field and went over the fence for her first home run of the season.
The Cats weren't done yet, either.
Katelyn Whiting and Emily Ruhl both singled, then would advance to third and second, respectively, when Makayla Donahoo's grounder was scooped up and sent to first base for the initial out of the inning. Mia Rushton came to the plate and slapped a 1-2 pitch into left field which scored Whiting and Ruhl to give WSU a 4-2 lead.
Neither team was able to score until the bottom of the fourth.
With four hits in the inning, DSU brought home four runners and took their second lead of the contest at 6-4.
It was a friendly top half of the fifth for Weber State, though. Camarero, whose start to the season has been nothing short of extravagant, popped a pitch well beyond the fence in left field for her sixth home run of the season. Lauren Hoe and Ramirez both singled to get a couple of runners on base for Whiting who brought both runners in with a base knock, which made the score 7-6 in favor of the Wildcats.
The fun wasn't done yet.
Another two-out Trailblazer rally in the fifth was punctuated by the scoring of a run to level the game at seven.
Rushton singled to start the sixth, and when Camarero -who went 3-4 with two RBI and was a double short of the cycle- sent a triple out into right field, Rushton was able to break the tie once again at 8-7 for Weber State. Camarero came home to score on a fielding error and extended the Wildcat lead to 9-7.
The Cats struck again in the seventh when Whiting scored on a Rushton fly ball, and that three-run lead was simply too much that late in the ball game. Amanda Sink , who pitched the final three innings, surrendered five hits but not a single run in the final three innings of the game, and Weber State won its sixth straight ball game to advance to and impressive 8-2 on the season.
The Wildcats will be back in action on February 24-26 in St. George, UT for a tournament in which they'll play Nevada, Dixie State, Utah Valley, and Winthrop.
