FULLERTON, Calif. – As one winning streak closed, another one opened. Weber State softball picked up a couple of wins on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Seattle, and a 4-1 victory over Penn.
The offense was few and far between in WSU's game against Seattle, but the Wildcat stars still shined brought in the Fullerton night.
The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth. As the designated visiting team, Weber State headed to the plate and Chloe Camarero laced a single to give the Cats a leadoff runner. Faith Hoe reached on a error to give the Cats runners on first and second with Arissa Henderson stepping up to bat.
Henderson connected on the pitch and sent it way over the Fullerton fence to catapult WSU into a 3-0 lead late in the game. Not only was Henderson impactful at the plate, but she threw another gem in the circle. In her last appearance, she stifled Texas A&M bats allowing one run on one hit in a complete game.
She followed that performance up with one that was just as impressive.
In another complete game, Henderson sat seven Seattle players down on strikes, didn't allow a single walk, and only gave up two hits in what was a complete game shutout, in addition to hitting a three-run blast.
With the win, Weber State moved to 15-3 on the year, while Henderson's personal record remained unblemished and improved to 5-0.
The Wildcats then prepped for the late nightcap against Penn in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
WSU got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning when they scored a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Wildcats added a bit of insurance to that lead in the bottom of the sixth when they tacked on two more. Penn was able to get a run back in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough. Weber State won 4-1 with the phenomenal Mariah Ramirez in the circle throwing a complete game with ten strikeouts, no walks, and allowing six hits. Offensively the Wildcats were led by Mia Rushton who went 2-4 and scored a run, as well as Faith Hoe who scored a run and brought in a RBI on 1-1 hitting.
Weber State (16-3) will finish the Judi Garman Classic on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM MT against Cal State Fullerton, the tournament's host. The game can be viewed on ESPN+.
