Utes Snap Wildcats' Win Streak

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State Wildcat softball team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end on a cold, rainy, windy Tuesday with a 6-2 loss against the University of Utah.
The Wildcats took a pitcher-by-committee approach to Tuesday's game with Arissa Henderson getting the start. Henderson allowed two baserunners through two innings but came out of the game with no hits or runs scored against her.
Amanda Sink entered the game for WSU in the top of the third inning and WSU struggled to get outs defensively. Three Utes crossed the plate to give Utah a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Makayla Donahoo finally got something going for Weber State. She sent a line drive to the outfield and sprinted all the way to third base to give the Wildcats their first hit of the game, but WSU was unable to bring her home.
The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth when the Wildcat bats started to threaten the Utah lead. Donahoo, the inning's lead off batter, reached on a single and was moved over when Faith Hoe reached on a base hit to put Wildcats on first and second base. Henderson hit a flair over the infield that plated Donahoo and made it a one-run ball game. The scoring continued as Chloe Camarero scorched a pitch down the line that brought home Faith Hoe, but the Wildcat offense sputtered after that.
In the top of the seventh, the Utes tacked on three more insurance runs and that proved to be more than enough as the Wildcats went three up and three down in the bottom of the seventh.
The loss is Weber State's first at home this season and drops the Cats to 30-9 for the year. It's also Weber State's first loss at home in the 2022 season.
NOTABLES
The Wildcats take off for Greeley, Colorado this weekend and a series against the Northern Colorado Bears. UNCo is currently in fourth place in the Big Sky Conference standings with a 5-4 conference record. The series can be watched on ESPN+.
