GAME NOTES: Wildcat Softball Hosts Big Sky Conference Tournament

OGDEN, Utah – The postseason is set to begin this week as Weber State softball, the 2022 conference regular-season champions, is set to host the Big Sky Conference tournament.

WEBER STATE (35-10, 13-1)

-The Wildcats are the number one seed heading into the Big Sky Conference tournament. This is the third consecutive season that the Wildcats have been the one seed.
-Weber State has hosted the Conference tournament in six of the last seven seasons.   
-With Weber State's sweep of Sacramento State in the last series of the season, the Wildcats clinched the Big Sky Conference regular season championship. This is the sixth straight year that WSU has won a conference championship.
-The Wildcats enter the tournament ranked number 55 in the nation in RPI. The next highest team in the Big Sky is Portland State at 111.
-The Cats will play the winner of No. 4 Northern Colorado and No. 5 Idaho State in their first game. Weber State is 4-0 against the Bengals in Big Sky tournament play, and is 2-1 against the Bears with both of those wins coming in the 2019 tournament.
-WSU has won 18 consecutive series against Big Sky Conference teams dating back to 2018.
-The 2022 season marks the second time in program history that the Wildcats have beaten at least three teams from power five conferences (Kansas, Texas A&M, Utah).
-The Cats went 22-9 outside of Big Sky play this year which is tied for the second most out-of-conference wins in school history.
-Weber State finished the regular season with a 10-1 record at Wildcat Softball Field. This is the first season since 2017 that the Cats have won 10 or more games at home in a season.

All Conference Honors

-Every Wildcat starter received accolades from the Big Sky Conference.
-Weber State led the Big Sky with four selections to the First Team All-Conference, and 11 players overall receiving awards.
-Arissa Henderson was named the Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year after her incredible season in the circle and at the dish.
-Chloe Camarero (outfield), Henderson (pitcher/utility), Faith Hoe (second base), and Mika Chong (non-pitcher/utility) were named to the First Team All-Conference.
-Lauren Hoe (catcher), McKell McCuistion (first base), Mariah Ramirez (pitcher), and Katelyn Whiting (outfield) were tabbed as Second Team All-Conference selections.
-Makayla Donahoo, Emily Ruhl, and Mia Rushton were all given honorable mentions.

2021 Big Sky Tournament

-The Wildcats hosted the 2021 Big Sky tournament and were the number one seed after going 15-3 in conference play.
-Weber State had a disappointing exit after losing its first game to Portland State, and losing the following game to Sacramento State.

Mary Kay Amicone

-Mary Kay Amicone was named the 2022 Big Sky Conference coach of the year on Tuesday. She was the unanimous selection for the award. This is her fourth time being named the conference's coach of the year.
-With a win against Northern Colorado on April 23 this season, Mary Kay Amicone became the first head coach in Big Sky Conference history to reach 100 career conference wins.
-After WSU beat Seattle earlier this season, Amicone reached 750 career wins as a collegiate head coach.

Wildcat Pitching and Defense

-The Wildcat pitching staff leads the Big Sky Conference with a 2.93 ERA.
-WSU pitchers have surrendered less earned runs (123), doubles (38), triples (5), and home runs (19) than any other squad in the Big Sky.
-Henderson's 2.04 ERA leads Weber State and is tops in the Big Sky. Ramirez (3.33) ranks fourth, and Amanda Sink (3.84) is seventh.
-Henderson and Ramirez are both in the 100 K club for the season with 123 and 107 strikeouts, respectively.
-The Wildcat defense has been elite this year, and is tied for 23rd in the nation with a .973 fielding percentage.

Wildcat Bats

-As a team, the Wildcat slash line is .306/.385/.474, all of which are the best in the Big Sky.
-Weber State's .306 batting average is the 34th best in the nation.
-The Cats are tops in the conference and rank 23rd in the nation in runs per game with a 6.16 average.
-Faith Hoe's .371 batting average leads the Wildcats and is third in the Big Sky. She also leads the team in hits (52) and doubles (10).
-Camarero ranks in the top five in the Big Sky in runs scored (37), triples (3), and home runs (10).
