GAME NOTES: Wildcats Return to Regionals

SEATTLE, Wash. – After winning the Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament championships, the ten-time Big Sky champion Weber State Wildcat softball team has clinched a spot in the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats drew the third seed in their region and were selected in the Seattle region along with the host and No. 13 seed Washington, Texas, and Lehigh.

The Wildcats' first game of the tournament will be against Texas, the region's two seed. The game will be broadcast on Friday, May 22 on ESPN's Longhorn Network. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM MT.

WEBER STATE (38-10, 13-1)

-This is Weber State's fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament, and its first appearance since 2019.
-Weber State won the 2022 Big Sky regular-season championship and the 2022 conference tournament. This is the third time in school history that the program has won both championships in the same season.
-The Wildcats won the Big Sky Conference tournament in a historic and dominant fashion. In three games, they outscored opponents 27-0 and won each game in five innings.
-WSU is 0-2 all-time against Texas, the last meeting between the two schools was in Austin in February of 2020.
-Weber State, the three seed in its region, received the highest seed ever for a team from the Big Sky Conference.

Wildcat Records

-With 38 wins, the 2022 Wildcats tied the school record for most wins in a season (2015).
-The Wildcats broke school and conference records for overall (.792) and conference (.929) winning percentages.
-Weber State set a school record for longest winning at 12 games. The streak included wins against the likes of Kansas, UNLV, and Texas A&M. The previous record for most consecutive wins was ten.
-With 44 home runs on the year, the 'Cats are one home run away from tying the program record for most home runs in a season (2012).

Wildcat Awards

-After a tremendous season in the circle and at the dish, Arissa Henderson was named the 2022 Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year.
-Chloe Camarero, Mika Chong, Henderson, and Faith Hoe were named to the First Team All-Big Sky.
-Lauren Hoe, McKell McCuistion, Mariah Ramirez, and Katelyn Whiting were Second Team All-Big Sky selections.
-Makayla Donahoo, Emily Ruhl, and Mia Rushton were tabbed as All-Big Sky Honorable Mentions.
-Henderson was named the Big Sky tournament MVP. Camarero, Faith Hoe, McCuistion, and Whiting were selected to the all-tournament team.

Mary Kay Amicone

-In the team's win against Seattle earlier this season, Mary Kay Amicone recorded her 750th career win as a collegiate head coach.
-Amicone also notched her 100th career Big Sky Conference win against the Northern Colorado Bears on April 23. She is the first and only coach in conference history to reach that mark.
-For the third straight season and the fourth time in her career, Amicone was named the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year. She was a unanimous selection for the award.

Wildcat Pitching/Defense

-As a pitching staff, Weber State led the conference with a 2.79 ERA.
-Wildcat pitching allowed less runs (155), doubles (40), triples (5), and home runs (19) than any other squad in the Big Sky.
-Henderson's 1.88 ERA was the best in the Big Sky Conference this season.
-The Wildcats had two members of the 100 K club. Henderson led the team with 128 and Ramirez with 116.
-Ramirez has broken the school record for strikeouts in a single game twice this season. She struck out 12 against Bradley, then tied the Big Sky Conference record with 16 strikeouts against SUU later in the year.
-The Wildcat defense ranks in the top 25 in the nation with a .974 fielding percentage.

Wildcat Bats

-As a team, the 'Cats are slashing .313/.391/.487, all of which lead the Big Sky and rank in the top 40 in the nation.
-Weber State's 6.33 runs scored per game are the best in the Big Sky Conference and the 14th best in the country.
-Faith Hoe's .378 batting average led Weber State and were the third best in the Big Sky. Faith also had the walk-off base hit that clinched the Big Sky regular-season championship for the Wildcats.
-Camarero, a Wildcat legend, ranks in the top 10 in WSU history in games played (193), runs scored (110), hits (165), doubles (33), triples (12), and home runs (23).
