Wildcats Go 1-1 On The Weekend In Pocatello

Pocatello, ID - The Weber State men's tennis team traveled to Pocatello this weekend for a doubleheader Saturday against Idaho State and Seattle University. The 'Cats dropped a hard-fought match on Saturday morning to the Idaho State Bengals, falling 4-3, and won 4-2 against Seattle University.

Match #1 - Idaho State
Starting doubles play, the Bengals secured the first point on court one when the ISU duo defeated Connor Kruger and William Zulch 6-1. However, Weber battled for the doubles point earning wins on the remaining two courts and securing the early advantage. Sebastian Buxman and Matteo Savio defeated Ege Cankus and Victor Sklenka 6-4 on court three. Clinching the point for the 'Cats, Tristan Sarap and Jordan Coutinho took the upper hand against Patrick Kristensen and Wikus Robbertse 7-5.

Singles played out to be just as tight as doubles. Two first-set matches went to tiebreakers as four others were just as competitive. ISU won four first sets to give some breathing room, but although the 'Cats fought back, ISU was able to take four singles matches to clinch the team win.

Connor Kruger dropped his match 6-1, 4-1 against Andreas Kramer to tie the score 1-1. Tristan Sarap fell against his opponent 7-6 (5-4), 6-7 (4-5), 6-2, giving the Bengals a lead by one.

Tying the score 2-2, William Zulch took the upper hand 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 against Wikus Robbertse but the 'Cats fell behind again when the Bengals secured wins on courts one and five. Matteo Savio took the victory in a three-set match 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 to close out the day and give Weber State its third point of the match.

Match #2 - Seattle University
During doubles play, the 'Cats fell short as the Redhawks secured the 1-0 advantage on courts one and two.

As the match moved to singles, the 'Cats were ready to take on the Redhawks. On court three, Connor Kruger cruised through his match against Julian Worn, finishing 6-2, 6-0, and awarding the 'Cats with their first point. The second point came on court one, where Sebastian Buxman defeated Clement Hamel 6-4, 6-4.

Tristan Sarap won 6-4, 7(4)-6(0) giving the 'Cats a two-point lead. The Redhawks earned their second and final point on the day when Veselin Kiselkov defeated William Zulch 6-3, 6-4. Earning the Wildcats their final point was Jordan Coutinho as he earned the victory 1-6, 7-6(2). The match on court six went unfinished ending the day 4-2 in favor of the Wildcats.
