'Cats go 0-2 for first day of Hillenbrand Invitational

WEBER STATE v. NEBRASKAÂ
Weber State women's softball opened the 2023 Hillenbrand Invitational dropping games against Nebraska and the University of Arizona.Â
The Wildcats kicked off the day against the Huskers in a close contest until Caitlynn Neal scored an RBI double to secure the 3-2 victory for UN.Â
Mika Chong opened the scoring for both squads with an RBI single that drove in Faith Hoe to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead in the fifth.Â
The Huskers answered back with an RBI single of their own to even the score in the same inning.Â
The Huskers took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning off of another RBI single, giving them a 2-1 lead.Â
In the top of the seventh inning, Faith Hoe collected an RBI single to drive in Gianna Memoli to tie the game.Â
Neal's RBI double crushed the 'Cats comeback hopes and ended the game 3-2.Â
Amanda Johnson pitched a total of 6.1 innings with eight hits and six strikeouts.Â
WEBER STATE v. U OF ARIZONAÂ
The Wildcats moved on to their second game of the day, playing the University of Arizona. The 'Cats had no luck and fell 0-8.Â
The 'Cats saw Madison Peterson, Brooke Hatfield and Jayci Finch in the circle against UofA.Â
Finch led the pitchers with a total of 3.0 innings pitched, Peterson finished with 1.2 pitched and Hatfield had 0.1.Â

Weber State is set to play California State University, Northridge on March 4 at 9 am.
