Wildcats Head to California for a Pair of Meets

The Wildcat track and field team were busy this weekend with the team splitting up to compete in a pair of meets in California.

AZUSA, CA – Distance runners competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational against a strong field of competitors from across the country.
Â
In the 800 Bryce Anderson earned a PR with a time of 1:52.22 which is the number four time in the Big Sky so far this season. Joe Corbridge ran 1:53.61 to earn a season best, and Hanokh Gailson ran 1:54.72, just shy of his PR set earlier this season.

Ben Ricks earned a PR in the 1500 with a time of 3:54.30 and Joe Corbridge finished with a season best time 3:57.93.

The 3000m Steeplechase had 3 PRs with Bronson Winter finishing fastest among the Wildcats with a time of 8:44.24 which ranks third in the Big Sky this season. Ty Davis also finished with a PR time of 9:00.23 which would rank fifth in the Big Sky. Kelton Gagnon improved on his PR from earlier this season, with a time of 9:05.41.

Ty Davis and Jamison Wilkes each earned PRs in the 5000 meters with times of 14:19.08 and 14:36.53 respectively.Â

Four athletes performed well in the 10,000m with the best time coming from Logan Anderson with a time of 30:03.95. Kevin Kirk came in at 30:07.65 in his first time competing in the event as a Wildcat. Taylor Knight ran a PR time of 30:20.81, and Conner Cox ran his first 10,000 with a time of 30:23.33.

Long Beach, CA – The sprinters and field athletes competed at the Beach Invitational. Xakai Harry performed well in both the high jump and long jump. He cleared a height of 6-07.00 which currently ranks sixth in the Big Sky. His long jump mark of 23-06.75 also ranks sixth in the Big Sky.

Caleb Whitney also competed in both the high jump and long jump, clearing 5-11.25 in the high jump, and jumping 21-09.5 in the long jump.

Anthony Garcia also competed in the high jump and cleared a season-best height of 6-05.00.

Reece Gardner had strong performances in several events with a PR coming in the long jump with a mark of 21-10.25. He also competed in his first races in the 110 hurdles and the 100m dash finishing with times of 16.63 and 11.53 respectively. Gardner also threw the javelin 155-11.00 in his first time competing in the event as a Wildcat.

In the 110 hurdles G Kire Goulding finished with a time of 14.84.

The 200m dash had Alex Wheeler finish well with a time of 21.69 which would be seventh in the Big Sky this season. Rodee Brow earned a PR in the 200 with a time of 22.33.

Gaige Vielhauer earned a PR in the discus with a mark of 147-04.00.

The Wildcats will back in Utah next week to compete in the BYU Robison Invitational in Provo. With just two more scheduled meets for the team, these will be great opportunities to continue to climb on the performance lists ahead of championship meets beginning with the Big Sky Championships on May 10-13.
