The Weber State men's cross country team opened the 2023 season with a win at the Utah Valley Invitational Friday morning in Orem.Â
The Wildcats totaled 38 points to beat the host UVU Wolverines who finished with 44. WSU also finished ahead of Division I teams Southern Utah, Utah Tech, and Idaho State.Â
"It was great to get the season underway," head coach Corbin Talley said. "I thought our top three guys worked together really well. Pete, Kevin and Bronson helped each other out throughout the race, and did a solid job leading the way for us."
The 'Cats were led by sophomore Peter Visser who finished fifth overall with a time of 14:30.3 on the 5K course. Kevin Kirk was sixth with a time of 14:31.2 and Bronson Winter was ninth at 14:34.1. Wesley Kallgren was the 11th finisher at 14:47.0 and Taylor Knight was 12th overall with a time of 14:47.8.Â
"It's a group with some very strong potential, and they have put in a solid summer of preparation and base," Talley said. " We still have a lot of work in front of us and more growth and development, but I am excited to see where they can go this season."Â
The meet was the first of six scheduled meets before the Big Sky Championships. The Wildcats will next be in action at the BYU Autumn Classic next Friday, September 8 in Provo.Â
