Wildcats to Compete in Big Sky 54 for IX Tournament

OGDEN, Utah – For the first time in league history the Big Sky Conference will be hosting a Fall Tournament and the Weber State women's golf team will join the other nine league programs to TalonsCove Golf Club for three rounds of action next week. The 'Big Sky 54 for IX' will be played from September 25-26 and serve as a celebration of the first 50 years of Title IX.
Additionally, the tournament will be incorporating women's leaders from around the region to interact with the student-athletes and help provide a unique experience for the competitors while playing in a high-level Division I tournament. The Big Sky has also partnered with the Utah Golf Association to help make this tournament possible.
Competing for the Wildcats will be Isabel Gutierrez, Cala Korman, Jessica Zelasko, Sofia Fuenmayor and Emily Song. WSU will also be suiting up a pair of individuals in Samira Salinas and Jade Gruher.
Participating in the tournament from the Big Sky Conference are Eastern Washington, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State and Weber State. Four non-conference teams are also competing with Hartford, Southern Utah, Utah Tech and Utah Valley joining the field.
The tournament will be the second time out for the Wildcats this fall as they previously turned in a fifth-place finish at the Timpanogos Collegiate, hosted by Utah Valley at Timpanogos Golf Club in Provo, Utah. Gutierrez led the Wildcats, finishing in a tie for ninth place overall with a 5-under par 211. Her performance earned her the Big Sky Women's Golfer of the Week award.
