Weber State softball takes both games on day two of CBU Classic

The two wins improve the Wildcats to 3-6 overall.
Riverside, CA – The Wildcat softball team was victorious in both of their games on Saturday at the CBU Classic. The Wildcats defeated CSU Bakersfield, 7-6, and edged out California Baptist, 2-0.
Game One - Weber State: 7 CSU Bakersfield: 6
Game Two - Weber State: 2 California Baptist: 0

"I'm proud of our team for their effort today. We learned a lot about what it takes to win in close games."
"Joslynn gave us a good state in game one and Cali had an excellent outing in closing it out. Our team offense was much better. Cali trusted her defense and threw a complete game shutout in game two. We did a lot of little things right together today."

Game One - Weber State: 7 CSU Bakersfield: 6
- The first lead in Weber State's first game belonged to the Wildcats. Taegan Smith singled and brought in two runs.
- The Roadrunners made sure that was a short-lived advantage. In the top of the third, a single to left field advanced the 'Runners to third and provided their first run on the day.
- CSU Bakersfield earned their first lead in the game 3-2 after an error by right field.
- Looking to regain that lead, the Wildcats earned runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Tori Rey found home plate after a Smith single and Olivia Birkinshaw scored on a wild pitch. The Wildcats headed into the sixth inning with the lead 6-3.
- The Roadrunners would respond in the top of the sixth, combining a three-run rally that would tie up the game 6-6.
- The Wildcats put the game away in the bottom of the sixth, 7-6. Scoring one run off of a passed ball to end the game.
- Cali McCraw took the win for the Wildcats, pitching 1.2 innings. She allowed one hit in the game with one strikeout.
- Taegan Smith went 3-for-4 at the plate and batted in three RBI.
Game Two - Weber State: 2 California Baptist: 0
- In the top of the second, Eva Richardson singled to left center securing one run for the Wildcats as Kiaira Smith found home plate.
- The Lancers would stay hitless throughout the third and fourth innings, struggling to amount to any sort of offense.
- The difficulty at the plate was met with an aggressive defense, pitcher Cali McCraw, and the other fielders held the Lancers to just four hits in four innings.
- The seventh would prove to be the finishing factor for the Wildcats. Sarah Ruhl flied out to center field allowing Riley Whalen to score off of a sacrifice fly. With the lead in hand, the Weber State defense mowed down the final four batters eliminating any threat through the final out.
- Cali McCraw pitched a complete game for the win, allowing only four hits. She finished the game with three strikeouts.
- Eva Richardson went 2-for-3 with one RBI while Kiaira Smith recorded two hits in three at-bats with one run.
