Wildcats edged by Aggies in weekend finale

Riverside, CA – The Weber State softball team was held to just two runs in its final game of the CBU Classic on Sunday as they fell to Utah State 4-2. The Wildcats finished the weekend 2-3 moving to 3-7 overall.

"We played hard today and had lots of growth this weekend. We will continue to improve with each outing."
Next: The Wildcats return to the diamond Feb. 23-25 for the Utah Tech Tournament in St. George, UT.

- Getting themselves on the board first, the Aggie's Alex Bunton doubled with one RBI.
- To tie up the game, Gianna Memoli doubled to left center allowing Olivia Birkinshaw to find home plate.
- Utah State used two hits to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the third. To chip away at the deficit, Weber State's Abby Grundy reached on a fielder's choice and Makayla Donahoo ran home to bring the score to 3-2.
- Cali McCraw held the Aggies hitless for three innings until the top of the seventh where Utah State found one more run.
- With two outs and bases loaded, the Wildcats were looking to find home plate. Unfortunately, with a strike out the contest came to a close.
- The Wildcats tallied two runs, while the Aggies recorded four. Mia Rushton led WSU with a team-high three hits. Pitcher Joslynn Veltien was given the loss as she dropped 0-1 on the season.
