Wildcats Open Spring with 11th Place Causeway Invitational Finish

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Weber State women's golf team opened up the 2024 spring season with an 11th place finish as The Causeway Invitational wrapped up on Tuesday at Del Paso Country Club.
The Wildcats posted rounds of 307 and 299 on Monday before closing the event with a 316 over the final 18 holes for a three-round total of 922.
"Today was a rough day for us," said head coach Sara Hogue. "We struggled again on par-fives. It was a great tournament and a very competitive field. We are disappointed we didn't shoot better, but we learned a lot this week and are ready to get back to practice and get ready for our next one."
Jessica Zelasko led the Wildcats over the tournament, finishing in a tie for 23rd place at 11-over par 227. After opening with a 79, she carded seven of her eight birdies over the next two rounds, posting scores of 72 and 76.
Sofia Fuenmayor tied for 38th place overall with a 14-over par 230. Her tournament highlight came in Monday's opening round with first career hole-in-one, which came on the 130-yard, par-3 hole No. 2 at Del Paso. Fuenmayor posted back-to-back 75's on Monday before closing with an 80 on Tuesday.
Isabel Gutierrez shot a 16-over par total of 232 to tie for 43rd place with rounds of 73, 79 and 80.
Cala Korman and Emily Song each shot 21-over par 237's to tie for 55th place. Korman shot rounds of 81, 75 and 81, while Song recorded scores of 80, 77 and 80.
The tournament co-hosts finished in the top two spots on the team leaderboard, with Sacramento State taking the championship at 14-over par 878 and UC Davis five shots back in second at 883. Sac State was led by Sneha Sharan, who tied with Nevada's Leah John atop the individual leaderboard at 1-over par 217.
