ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The Weber State women's golf team posted the lowest score of the day among the 13-team field on Saturday to jump six spots for a second place finish at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club.

The Wildcats carded a 4-over par 292 over the final 18 holes and finished 10 shots back of team champion Boise State, which shot a 293 on the day to hold the lead. The next closest team on the day was Utah Valley, who shot a 13-over par 301 to move into a tie for third place with Oral Roberts.

Weber State shot rounds of 310 and 302 over the first two days and finished the tournament at 40-over par 904.

"I am really proud of all of our girls," said head coach Sara Hogue. "We didn't have the best start to the week, but the girls showed so much grit and discipline. They stuck to our game plan and started getting some confidence and it really showed in this last round. They really took each round and learned from it. Everyone showed up today and I couldn't be more proud of everyone."

Emily Song led the team for the second-straight day, carding five birdies in a 2-under par 70. After rounds of 79 and 72 over the first two days, she finished fourth overall with a five-over par total of 221.

"I felt like my first round I didn't play so great," said Song. "I had a few rough holes in the middle of my round, but I talked to coach Hogue and she told me that I always play my best when I'm fighting from behind, so I should play the rest of the tournament like I was 7-over. That really helped me keep my mindset and helped me keep calm. I was able to carry those thoughts throughout the tournament and it allowed me to stay more calm when I was under par."

Sofia Fuenmayor also cardred five birdies on the day and shot even-par 72 to finish tied for ninth at 8-ober par 224 after opening with consecutive rounds of 76.

Isabel Gutierrez posted rounds of 77, 75 and 75 to finish in a tie for 18th at 227, while Cala Korman shot rounds of 78-80-75 to tie for 35th overall at 233 and Jessica Zelasko shot rounds of 84-79-78 to finish tied for 58th at 241.

The Wildcats also got a pair of great tournaments out of two individuals in Jade Gruher and Samira Salinas. Gruher tied for ninth overall wtih rounds of 75-73 and 76 for an 8-over par 224 with nine birdies for the event. Salinas shot rounds of 78, 73 and 76 for a total of 227 to tie with Gutierrez in 18th place.

Wyoming's Jadan Gonzalez and Boise State's Leia Chung finished tied atop the individual leaderboard with even-par totals of 216.
