Weber State drops home opener to California

Wildcats drop 12-16 on the season. The ‘Cats are back home for a three-game series this weekend against Montana.
- In the bottom of the second, an RBI single by Sarah Ruhl got the Wildcats on the board.
- A Bears home run tied up the game 1-1 in the top of the third.
- Taking command in the top of the fourth, California totaled four runs. The Bears brought in an additional six runs in the fifth inning.
- To keep the game alive, a home run hit by Kiaira Smith gave Weber State their second run in the game. However, unable to bring in any other runs, the game ended in favor of the Bears 10-2 in five innings.
- Brooke Hatifield took the loss dropping 1-3 on the season.
- Wildcat Kiaira Smith earned her second home run on the season. This afternoon she went 1-for-3 at the plate with one RBI.
The Wildcats return to the diamond Friday for a doubleheader against Montana beginning at 2 p.m.
