Weber State sweeps weekend series against Montana

Ogden, UT - The Weber State softball team defeated the Montana Griz 12-4 in five innings and swept the weekend series this rainy afternoon at the Wildcat Softball Field.

To begin the game, it was all the Wildcats in the bottom of the first as the team put three runs up on the board. Eva Richardson hit her first home run of the season to bring in two RBI and a Makayla Donahoo single to center field allowed Sarah Ruhl to find home plate.
Weber State led with the early 3-0 advantage over the Griz.
Jayci Finch quickly removed the Griz from the plate with three up and three down in the top of the second.
Adding to the Wildcats lead, a Richardson double added an additional run for the 'Cats. Abby Grundy then tripled to right field and Richardson ran home. With Grundy on third, Ruhl singled to right field and the Wildcats were up 6-0.
Montana found a single run in the top of the fourth however, Weber State was rolling in the bottom of the inning totaling five runs (11-1).
Trying to avoid the mercy rule, the Griz claimed three runs in the fifth.
Weber State only needed a singular run to bring the game to a close. First batter up Kiaira Smith homered to center field and the Wildcats shut down the Griz 12-4 in five innings while also sweeping the weekend series.
Jayci Finch recorded the win, her second of the season.
Kiaira Smith, Makayla Donahoo, and Eva Richardson all hit a home run this afternoon.
Richardson went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs and three RBI.
Taegan Smith and Donahoo both went 2-for-2 at the plate with one run. Donahoo had three RBI on the day.
Kiaira Smith had a batting average of .367 going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Ruhl had six put outs.
