The Weber State softball team is coming off of a 0-3 weekend series loss over the Northern Colorado Bears. The losses put the Wildcats 5-4 in Big Sky Conference play.
This Week
Weber State is away in Salt Lake City April 10 for a single game against the Utah Utes. The team is then home for a three-game series against the Sacramento State Hornets. Weber State seniors will be celebrated Saturday.Â
Know the Foe - Utah
Series: 4-19
This will be the 24th all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Utes. In the last game between the two, Utah won 9-0 in Ogden. The Utes hold a 9-2 series lead in Salt Lake City over Weber State. Currently, Utah is 25-17, 7-11 on the season.
Know the Foe - Sacramento State
Series: 18-13
This will be the 32nd all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Hornets. In the last game between the two, Sacramento State lost 7-5 to the 'Cats in Ogden. Weber State holds a 10-5 series lead in Ogden. The Hornets are 22-14, 3-2 on the season.

Kiaira Smith leads the Wildcats with a batting average of .330. Smith has recorded 37 hits, 14 runs, 19 RBI, and has hit five home runs this season. Mia Rushton leads the team in hits with 39 and in runs scored with 23. Kiaira and Abby Grundy have both totaled 19 RBI this season. Pitcher Brooke Merrill has earned eight wins for the Wildcats this season pitching 72.1 innings and totaling 47 strikeouts. She is 8-7 on the season so far.

Fresh Faces
Six players make up the freshman class for 2024. Pitcher, Joslynn Veltien from Frederick, CO and catcher Mariyah Delgado from Herriman, UT. Sienna Solis a MIF from Gilbert, AZ, Sammy Gallegos an IF/OF from Magna, UT, Emma Bingham a OF from St. George, UT, and Kiaira Smith from South Jordan, UT also join the Wildcat squad.
Senior Stars
Weber State has three seniors returning for the Wildcats. IF/P Brooke Hatfield, OF Mia Rushton, and MI Makayla Donahoo. Last season, Donahoo played in 26 games and started in 24 for WSU. She hit .170 with a .189 slugging percentage and a .228 on-base percentage. She had 26 putouts and 51 assists for a .906 fielding percentage. Rushton played and started in 44 games, had 13 runs and 27 hits, had 110 at-bats and three RBI for a .300 slugging percentage. Hatfield pitched in 19 games last season for a total of 41.2 innings.
