GAME NOTES: Wildcats face Wolverines Tuesday, then travel to Idaho for a three-game series

The Weber State softball team is coming off of a 2-1 weekend series win over the Sacramento State Hornets. The win puts the Wildcats 7-5 in Big Sky Conference play.
 
This Week
Weber State is home April 23 for a single game against the Utah Valley Wolverines. The team is then away for a three-game series against the Idaho State Bengals.
 
Know the Foe - Utah Valley
Series: 19-18
 
This will be the 38th all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Wolverines. In the last game between the two, Weber State won 5-2 in Orem. The Wolverines hold a 6-5 series lead in Ogden over the Wildcats. Utah Valley is 17-25, 10-9 on the season.
 
Know the Foe - Idaho State
Series: 28-18
 
This will be the 47th all-time meeting between Weber State and Idaho State. In the last game between the Wildcats and Bengals, the 'Cats lost 12-8 in Ogden. WSU holds a 17-9 series lead at home. The Bengals are 23-23, 5-3 on the season.

Abby Grundy leads the Wildcats with a batting average of .345 and has recorded 40 hits, 21 runs, and 23 RBI. Mia Rushton leads the team in hits with 42 and in runs scored with 25. Pitcher Brooke Merrill has earned eight wins for the Wildcats this season pitching 79.2 innings and totaling 51 strikeouts.

Fresh Faces
Six players make up the freshman class for 2024. Pitcher, Joslynn Veltien from
Frederick, CO and catcher Mariyah Delgado from Herriman, UT. Sienna Solis a MIF from Gilbert, AZ, Sammy Gallegos an IF/OF from Magna, UT, Emma Bingham a OF from St. George, UT, and Kiaira Smith from South Jordan, UT also join the Wildcat squad.
 
Senior Stars
Weber State has three seniors returning for the Wildcats. IF/P Brooke Hatfield, OF Mia Rushton, and MI Makayla Donahoo. Last season, Donahoo played in 26 games and started in 24 for WSU. She hit .170 with a .189 slugging percentage and a .228 on-base percentage. She had 26 putouts and 51 assists for a .906 fielding percentage. Rushton played and started in 44 games, had 13 runs and 27 hits, had 110 at-bats and three RBI for a .300 slugging percentage. Hatfield pitched in 19 games last season for a total of 41.2 innings.
