Weber State secures win in first game of series against Idaho State

Game One - Weber State 6, Idaho State 4
- On the board first, Idaho State's Gracie Smith homered to center field.
- In response, Kiaira Smith homered in the top of the third to tie the game.
- To regain the lead, the Bengal's Olivia Robinson found home off of an Ava Brown RBI double to right center field.
- Both teams were scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings until the sixth where the Wildcats and Bengals recorded two runs each. Kiaira Smith doubled to left field and Sarah Ruhl singled up the middle.
- Idaho State was up by one into the seventh inning with the 'Cats needing at least two runs to earn the advantage.Â
- Weber State did just that when Abby Grundy and Olivia Birkinshaw both hit home runs to give the 'Cats a 5-4 lead. With that momentum, Victoria Rey doubled to right center field and Mayakla Donahoo ran home to advance Weber State's 6-4.
- Into the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcat defense held strong allowing no runs for the Bengals, and Weber State earned the first game victory in the series.Â
- Kiaira Smith hit her sixth home run of the season and totaled two RBI.Â
- Brooke Hatfield earned the win and is now 4-4 on the season. She pitched 6.2 innings with two strikeouts.
- Grundy went 2 for 4 at the plate, recording one run and one RBI.
