Wildcats fall short to Bengals in final weekend of the regular season

Weber State softball finished 8-7 in Big Sky play

Pocatello, ID - The Weber State softball team fell 7-6 (10 Inn.) in the suspended game from Friday and then dropped game three of the series 8-0 (5 Inn.). 
 
Game One - Weber State 6, Idaho State, 7 (10 Inn.) 
  • Weber State was off to a strong start with a 3-0 lead into the second game of the series.
  • Two runs came in the second inning when Mariyah Delgado scored off a Gianna Memoli single and when Abby Grundy stole home. Another run came from a Grundy double to left field to bring in an RBI in the third. 
  • The Bengals responded in the fourth inning totaling two runs and an additional three in the fifth inning off of two home runs to trail the 'Cats by one 6-5.
  • The one-point advantage was not enough as the Bengals brought home Kennedy Dudley in the seventh and the game was sent to extra innings. 
  • Scoreless into the top of the ninth, game two was postponed due to weather and field conditions to Sunday, April 28.
  • Game play continued into the tenth inning until Idaho State's Dudley was hit by the pitch with bases loaded. Idaho State took the win 7-6 and snapped the Wildcat's chance at the Big Sky regular season title.
Game Two - Weber State 0, Idaho State 8 (5 Inn.)
  • The third game of the series started slow for the Wildcats and the Bengals put four on the board all in the third inning.
  • Recording an additional four runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Idaho State softball team ended the game 8-0 in five innings.
  • Weber State struggled offensively totaling three hits compared to the Bengals 11.
  • Cali McCraw took the loss falling 6-4.

COMING UP
The 2024 Big Sky Softball Championship will be held May 8-11 at Idaho State's Softball Field in Pocatello, Idaho. All six Big Sky softball teams will advance to the double-elimination tournament, with the champion earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament.
