Wildcat men's track and field takes third at Big Sky Championships

The third place finish is WSU's best since 2017.
BOZEMAN, Mont. - The Weber State men's track and field team finished third in the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, the best finish for the Wildcats since 2017.
Weber State totaled 91 points to finish third overall. The host Montana State knocked off Northern Arizona by one point for the team title. Weber State was 17 points ahead of Montana who finished fourth with 74 points.
WSU had eight athletes earn All-Big Sky honors. The 'Cats scored at least 11 points in four different events.
WSU had 15 points in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and had three finishers in the top five. Peter Visser was third overall at 8:52.43, Bronson Winter fourth at 9:01.06, and Ty Davis fifth at 9:01.51.
The 'Cats scored 14 points in the 400 meters with two finishers in the top three and both posted all-time WSU times. Rodee Brow was second overall with a time of 46.43 which is now the third fastest in Weber State history. Orion Barger was right behind with a time of 46.62 to finish third and earn All-Big Sky honors. That time ranks as the fourth best in school history.
Winter was third in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:49.05 to claim All-Big Sky honors. Kelton Gagnon finished seventh in the event at 3:50.98.
In the field events, two Wildcats finished in the top three in the javelin to earn All-Big Sky honors. Josh Trafny was second at 236-06 and Cody Canard was third at 234-08.
Two Wildcats finished in the top four in the decathlon on Wednesday and Thursday. Jed Smith earned All-Big Sky honors as he finished third with 5,698 points. Ryan Talbot was fourth in the event with 5,686 points.
Another All-Big Sky performance came from Kale Thomas in the high jump who finished second in the meet with a mark of 6-08.
The 'Cats were fourth in the meet's final event, the 4x400 relay, with a time of 3:09.66.
Wesley Kallgren was fifth in the 10,000 meters Friday night with a time of 30:45.51 and Tanner Rogers was eighth at 31:03.07.
Joe Corbridge was sixth in the 800 meters at 1:50.99, Malik Johnson was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.27, and Peter Visser finished eighth in the 5,000 meters at 14:20.97.
Xakai Harry was sixth in the long jump with a mark of 23-07.25. Jake Weathers was seventh in the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 191-07. That mark now ranks as the eighth-best in WSU history.
Up next for those who qualify, will be the the NCAA West First Round meet, which will be May 22-25 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
