WSU men send eight athletes to NCAA track and field first round meet

The NCAA West First Round meet will be held May 22-25 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Weber State men's track and field will have eight Wildcats competing at the NCAA West Region First Round meet.  

The NCAA West First Round meet will be held May 22-25 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The top 48 athletes in the West Region in each event qualify for the championships. 

The top 12 finishers in each event at the region meet will advance to the NCAA Championships. 

The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live results available at WeberStateSports.com. 

Weber State has four athletes qualified in the steeplechase, two in the javelin, and one each in the 400 meters and 1500 meters. 

Four Wildcats will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, which will be held on Friday, May 24 at 4:40 p.m. Mountain time. Weber State and BYU are the only two teams with four athletes in the steeplechase. There are 14 athletes from schools in Utah in the event with 10 in the top 20. 

Peter Visser enters the meet ranked 11th in the west region. Last week, he posted an altitude-adjusted time of 8:39.46 to rank 11th. He earned all-conference honors by finishing third overall in the meet. 

Bronson Winter is ranked 16th in the west region with a time of 8:43.35. Jamison Wilkes is 20th at 8:45.05, and Ty Davis is 31st at 8:48.31. 

Two other Wildcats qualified for the NCAA in the javelin. Cody Canard is ranked fourth in the west region in the javelin. Earlier this year, he shattered the Weber State and Big Sky record in the event with a mark of 256-02. 

Josh Trafny is ranked 12th in the region in the event. He posted a mark of 242-03 in the event which is the second-best in WSU history and the third-best in Big Sky history. 

Trafny was second in the javelin at the Big Sky Championships and Canard was third. 

The javelin will be contested on Wednesday, May 22 at 1 p.m. Mountain time. 

Kelton Gagnon is ranked seventh in the region in the 1,500 meters. He posted an altitude-adjusted time of 3:38.77 at the Big Sky Championships. He finished seventh overall in the event. 

The 1,500 meters will be on Wednesday, May 22 at 5:30 p.m. Mountain time. 

Rodee Brow will be competing in the 400 meters. He finished second in the event at the Big Sky Championships with a time of 46.43. He is ranked 47th in the west region. 

The NCAA Championships will be held June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon.
