Ogden, UT - The Weber State Wildcats women's soccer team defeated the Sacramento State Hornets 6-0 to close out the 2025 home season.
"Coming off two losses in conference, this was obviously a significant result." Head Coach Kyle Christensen said. "The fashion we did it in was important as well, with a lot of different goal scorers and the energy we played with."
The Wildcats rewrote the record books today, moving into the top 10 all-time in a litany of metrics. It was the most goals scored in a match since 2001 (6) and the most scored in a half since 2006 (4). Additionally, it is the most goals scored in a Big Sky Conference game in program history and is tied for 2nd all-time in points scored in a match (24).
Grace Kirby got the scoring started in the 18th minute, with Sammie Sofonia quickly following in the 21st.
The 'Cats then scored back-to-back goals off double assists to push the lead to 4. Sayler Schlosser put it in the back of the net on assists from Kirby and Brynlee Meyerhoffer in the 35th minute, and a Simone Packer header from Bailey Brown and Schlosser in the 43rd minute gave the Wildcats a 4-0 advantage at the break.
In the 2nd frame, Presley Ray continued the goal-scoring party with an unassisted goal in the 53rd, before Schlosser scored her brace in the 82nd minute to put the finishing touches on a dominant 6-0 win.
The Wildcats' offensive attack was lethal all day, outshooting the Hornets 32-4 with 17 of the shots being on goal.
"Hopefully, these are one of many program records we set moving forward," Christensen said.
The Wildcats will close their regular season with 3 consecutive road matches before the Big Sky Conference Tournament in Missoula, Montana, in November.
First of the road matches will come against Northern Arizona on Friday Night in Flagstaff. The Lumberjacks are 4-4-5 on the season with a 1-2-1 mark in Big Sky play this season.
