Wildcats take down Bears 1-0

Greeley, Colo - The Weber State Wildcats women's soccer team defeated the Northern Colorado Bears 1-0 on Sunday afternoon as they continue their push for the Big Sky Regular Season Title.
The Wildcats struck early as Oakley Anderson set up Presley Ray in the 5th minute on a give-and-go in the box. The goal was Ray's 5th on the season, and her 4th game-winner, which gave the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage.
Lauren Butorac recorded 3 saves on the match, including one off a Northern Colorado corner kick in the 28th minute.
Butorac registered her 5th clean sheet of the season and lowered her GAA on the season to 1.07 for her freshman campaign.Â
The Wildcats had opportunities throughout the remaining 85 minutes of action, including a shot from Delaney Gibbons just over the bar in the 40th minute and two shots from Ray and Brynlee Meyerhoffer in the 49th minute that the UNC keeper saved.
The last efforts from Northern Colorado came up empty, including a chip shot in the 88th minute that sailed high.
The win gives the Wildcats double-digit wins for the first time since 2021 in the first season of the Kyle Christensen era. Additionally, the 'Cats become the first team to reach the 10-win mark in the state of Utah this season.
The team still sits 1 point behind the Montana Grizzlies for the Big Sky regular season title after the Griz defeated Sacramento State 1-0 on Sunday.Â
The Wildcats will need the help of Portland State on Thursday afternoon to stay alive in the hunt for the programs first Big Sky regular season title since 2018.
The Wildcats will head to Pocatello next Sunday for the regular season finale against the Idaho State Bengals. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m.Â
