Wildcats topple Bengals 3-0

Pocatello, ID - The Weber State Wildcats women's soccer team defeated the Idaho State Bengals 3-0 behind a Grace Kirby hat trick. The Wildcats finish the regular season 11-6-1 (5-2-1).
The Wildcats had their chances early on, including a Cadence Packer shot that shook the crossbar in the 34th minute. The Tenzi Knowles shot off the ricochet was saved by the Bengals keeper.Â
The Wildcats broke through in the 41st minute on the foot of Grace Kirby. The Packer twins, Cadence and Simone, recorded the double assist on the goal.
In the 50th minute, Kirby found the back of the net again. She picked the pocket of an ISU defender just outside of the box and won the 1-on-1 against the keeper for the 2-0 lead.
Kirby delivered the dagger with her 3rd goal of the match in the 67th minute. Presley Ray and Harlee Thomas each picked up an assist on the goal.Â
The hat trick is the first for a Wildcat since Morgan Furmaniak against Idaho State in 2022. Her 7 goals on the season lead the team and are tied for second in the Big Sky Conference. Â
Freshman Lauren Butorac recorded her 6th shutout of the season and lowered her goals against average to 1.00 and increased her save percentage to 0.769 for the season.Â
With the win, the Wildcats clinched the number 2 seed and the bye in the Big Sky Conference Tournament. They will face the winner of #3-seeded Eastern Washington and #6-seeded Northern Arizona on Friday, November 7th.Â
The 11 wins on the season are tied for the 4th most in program history, having last reached the 11-win mark in 2021. It is the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history.Â
