Weber State comes up just short against UT Arlington

‘Cats fall 74-73 in the final game of the Junction City Jam.
OGDEN - Weber State put together a strong second-half surge but came up one possession short in a 74-73 setback to UT Arlington on Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.
UT Arlington opened the game with an early 9-2 advantage, but Weber State responded with a 9-0 run midway through the first half to grab a brief 21-17 lead. UT Arlington closed the first half on a 10-0 run over the final 5:21 of the half and held a 33-27 halftime lead.
Weber State scored 46 points in the second half, but couldn't break away from the Mavericks.
The game saw eight ties and 10 lead changes. Weber State took a 69-68 lead with 1:59, but the Mavericks scored to regain the lead with 58 seconds left, then added two free throws and led by three with 24 seconds left.
With the 'Cats trailing by three with five seconds left, Tijan Saine Jr. knocked down a 3-point attempt, but his foot was on the line for only two points, and the Mavericks held on for the win.
Weber State shot 48 percent from the field, including six 3-pointers. The Wildcats were 15 of 17 from the free throw line, but UT Arlington won the rebounding battle 30-29. The Mavericks shot 51 percent from the field, including 55 percent in the second half.
The 'Cats had four players score in double figures led by Jace Whiting with 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting. Nigel Burris and Trevor Hennig each added 12 points, and Viljami Vartiainen had 10. Saine had eight points on 3 of 6 shooting.
Whiting and Saine were named to the All-Tournament team of the Junction City Jam.
The Wildcats are 2-4 on the season. Weber State will be back in action on Saturday, November 29, against Kansas City at the Dee Events Center. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
